Zoo Keeper #1

SMALL PRIMATE AND SMALL MAMMAL EXPERIENCE NEEDED


Permanent position available

40 hours a week plus overtime


 

Zookeepers will be part of a team responsible for the daily care of a large variety of exotic hoofstock in a Safari setting as well as a variety of species of animals in a zoological setting. Some of the species in the Walk-Through Zoo will include: 

reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys and lemurs, tayra, binturong and lesser anteaters, red river hogs and warthogs, kangaroos and wallabies, reptiles and amphibians, parrots, parakeets and ratites & domestic livestock

 

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

  • A College Degree in a Biological Science is strongly preferred
  • Experience with exotic animals in a zoological setting strongly preferred
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Have the ability to perform daily zookeeping tasks and other animal-related duties as assigned
  • Possess a working knowledge of Operant Conditioning and Environmental Enrichment
  • Have strong communication skills with Staff and the public
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs 
  • Ability to work in inclement weather
  • Willingness work weekends and Holidays as part of the normal assigned work week.
  • Have the ability to work overtime hours as needed
  • Be willing to be cross-trained to work with all animals throughout the facility
  • Experience or willingness to be trained in the safe removal of venomous snakes from zoo trails and exhibits
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Have the ability to pass a drug and background check
  • Have the ability to pass a TB test.


Pay is $15 an hour with 2-weeks paid vacation per calendar year and a health insurance stipend
